HISTORY OF GLASS CUT WORK
If the Indo
- Pak Subcontinent,
is observed in the historical background, it is disclosed that this
region was rich in culture, civilization arts and crafts, as Aryan
came and settled here the ancient old ruins of Moinjodaro is Sindh
and Harapa in Punjab, are raving the clear evidence of these superb
culture and civilization. With the passage of time, there appeared
change in culture and new horizons of development in arts and crafts
were discovered.
The central
city of Pakistan,
Multan is very
old in the history of the world. This city is well known for its
unique culture, excellent civilization and for the hotness of its
weather, throughout the world.
Class cut work
is one of the famous crafts of this city. The glass or mirror is a
very fine, delicate and shining thing, so no doubt, the articles
made by glass are also much pleasant and well-looking for their
nicety and Excellency. For these good characteristics of the mirror
and glass, the Mughal rulers of the Sub-continent praised this art.
So this art of glass are work was passed to the other countries of
the world. The glaziers developed this art and they enlightened the
palaces with their great craft! And they also created brightness in
mosques and other buildings because of the shines of the mirror and
glass.
In the
recent-past,
the great and
skilled glaziers shaped this art in accordance with the demand of
the modern time, in the great crafts men who made exceptional
efforts and worked hard for the enhancement of this art, were Malik
Muhammad Ashiq (Late), who was honoured by the presidential award
and Shoket Hussain who was also rich in his work.

under the superb teacher, Shoaket Hussain. He also learnt more and
improved himself from the ups and downs of the age. He devoted
himself for the development and prosperity of this and craft. He has
the honour that he introduced this art in the various countries of
the world and everywhere left very beauteous, lovely and long last
impressions and expressions in the minds of the bulks.
The I mm sheet
of glass or mirror
(coloured or simple) is cut according to the measurement with a
cutter having a tiny piece of diamond at one end. Then the small
pieces of glass are gained by breaking the glass sheet by moving
hands in special manner. These pieces are, then paste on any smooth
or plane surface with a special mixture having 75% white clay and
25% water by composition. With the help of this paste or mixture
glass pieces can be stuck on any plance surface in any order of
design.
After
twenty-four hours,
the design is
filled with ‘Plasterof Pairs’ then the surface of small glass pieces
are polished with a clean cloth. In the end the result is that, the
desired design of different shapes or flowers are become prominent,
with their full brightness and glowing.
In the same way
different designs,
calligraphy,
portrait and landscape can be prepared. For best result, graph can
be used for help.
Keep in mind,
that
it is strong and managed drawing that is the surety
of excellent rest.
